Saime Özçürümez (Ph.D., McGill University) is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Sociology at Başkent University. She has been a visiting scholar at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine (Harvard University) and the Next Generation Cities Institute (Concordia University). She is a leading scholar on global migration governance and comparative studies of social cohesion practices and policies in the fields of health, education, housing, and livelihood creation in forced migration contexts at the local and national levels, gender, social trauma-informed policy design, sociology of health, and the conceptualization of resilience and vulnerability. She is the co-author of the seminal work on forced migration experience in Türkiye (with A. İçduygu, 2020), and the co-editor of the award-winning volume on forced migration and social trauma (with A. Hamburger, C. Hancheva, C. Scher, B. Stankovic, S. Tutnjevic, Routledge, 2018). Her work has been published in reputable scholarly journals such as Population, Space and Place; Social Indicators Research; International Migration; Joıurnal of Gender Studies; Current Sociology; Intersections: East European Journal of Society and Politics; International Journal of Inclusive Education; Journal of International Migration and Integration; Global Networks and Violence Against Women. Alongside her research and teaching, Dr. Ozcurumez contributes to policy research, policy co-design, capacity building, evaluation, and monitoring in migration governance.
