M. Murat Erdoğan graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Science in 1986. Erdoğan served as a faculty member at Hacettepe University between 1987 and 2017, and at the Turkish-German University from 2017 to 2022. As a political scientist and migration researcher, he carried out his work as the founding director of Hacettepe University Center for Migration and Politics Research (2009–2017), Turkish-German University Research Center on Asylum and Migration (2017–2022), and Ankara University Faculty of Political Science Migration Research Center (2022–2024). His academic interests include voluntary and forced migration, refugees, the Turkish diaspora abroad, European Union–Türkiye relations, political cartoons, political behavior, Germany, and Turkish foreign policy. Erdoğan conducts comprehensive and regular public opinion surveys, including the "Euro-Turks-Barometer" on the Turkish diaspora in Europe and the "Syrians Barometer" on Syrians in Türkiye. Prof. Dr. Erdoğan conducted his doctoral research in Germany as a Konrad Adenauer Foundation scholar. He pursued his academic work as a visiting scholar at the University of Duisburg-Essen (2007), Humboldt University of Berlin (2010 and 2019), the University of Oxford (2012), and Johns Hopkins University (American Institute for Contemporary German Studies) (2014), and as a fellow at Centre for Applied Turkey Studies at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin (2022–2023). Since May 2026, Erdoğan has been serving as the Director of the Migration Research Center.
